Some bingo games have started in Arkansas before the Legislature has finished the wording on a law to make the games legal. Two charitable groups in the Jonesboro area have opened their doors and are conducting bingo games. One is offering a pull-tab game that may qualify as a raffle. Second District Prosecutor Brent Davis says it is not yet legal to conduct the games. Voters approved legal bingo and raffles in a vote last November, but the Legislature hasn't yet approved a bill that sets the rules for how the games are to be operated. Davis says that "in a perfect world" groups would wait to start conducting the games. But he says there appears to be little point in prosecuting people for doing something that will be legal in a couple of months. |
