The North Dakota attorney general's office cannot stop electronic bingo machines from being installed at a casino to be built just south of Grande Forks. Slot machines are considered Class 3 gaming devices and would require an amendment of the state gaming compact, so the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa hopes to use bingo as an alternative. After looking into the matter the state found it could not ban electronic bingo under the same jurisdiction as it had hoped. Gov. John Hoeven is still hoping to stop the construction of the proposed casino, which he considers to be a significant expansion of gambling in the state. |
